(55°28' 30°00')
In the winter of 1941 a commando unit (SK7a) of Einsatzgruppe B murdered many members of the Gorodok Jewish community. This took place in two different sites. The first one at Berezovka outside Gorodok involved the shooting of menfolk, while the second, also outside Gorodok, took place at the Vorobiev hills and involved women and children plus older men. The following is a list of known people in the two mass graves at these sites taken from a memorial book (in Belorussian: Minsk "Belarus" 2004) for the Gorodok region. The list only represents a small number of those shot by the commando unit. According to the memorial book, a Russian commission in 1943 exhumed 28 bodies from the mass graves at the end of the war and found among them several bodies of children who had been buried alive. It appears therefore that this was the fate of the children. Be aware that I have transliterated the names from the original Belorussian and that it is often difficult to distinguish between "o" and "a", so allowance should be made for this in understanding the names. |
